Farewell, Google+

It was fun while it lasted. If you haven’t heard the news, Google announced last October that they will be shutting down Google+, the social network facet of G Suite. Since the start, Google+ has had a small and unengaged user base. There was also a privacy lapse that came to light in March 2018; this breach impacted more than 500,000 users. To put things into perspective, 90 percent of Google+ user sessions lasted longer than five seconds.

Rest assured that Google has updated its User Data Policy in the wake of the security breach, and only apps that directly enhance email functionality (i.e. email clients and productivity services) will have authorized access to the data.

What This Means for Your Posts

If you rely on our team at EM Search Consulting for crafting your social media posts, this means that we will no longer be posting to Google+. As an alternative, we will be posting Google My Business posts.

Google My Business posts are the perfect place to promote your business and highlight special offers, coupons, new products or services, and so much more. The posts themselves will appear in your Google My Business box that appears when someone searches for your business, and they can include call-to-action buttons like “get offer,” “learn more,” “order online,” and “call now.”

Benefits of GMB Posts

  • Entice new customers through special offers
  • Minimize barriers between customers and the CTA
  • Versatility
  • Capitalize on opportunities
  • Improve organic traffic
  • Improve SEO

The posts last up to two weeks and will be regularly monitored by our team. If you have a specific post idea in mind, feel free to let your Account Manager know.
